Immersing in ice-cold water therapy

Ice, its beautiful to look at, so clear, and fragile but so powerful . Are you the type willing to taste what is it like to immerse in ice-cold water or you stay away as far as you can just because its cooold?

Is it really that miraculous procedure to immerse in ice cold water, and feel better than before physically, and mentally? Some would say, it can only lead to catching a cold, others would only support the idea because after they tried, and resisted against the ice-cold environment, they felt positive changes immediately.

I wanted to write an article about the procedure because of my friend who tried, and he is really pleased with the whole idea of how to get rid of most modern civilisation illnesses. His name is Mario Brco Kubala. He used to be ill all the time, having viruses’ infections, different chronic illnesses, and generally feeling weak.

So, Mario one day did some research, and online he came across a guy called Wim Hof, also known as The Iceman, is a Dutch extreme athlete noted for his ability to withstand extreme cold. Having grown popular worldwide, in these one-of-a-kind events, Wim takes you on a personal journey. With his singular, hypnotizing voice, he illustrates not just the three pillars of his Method  breathing technique, cold exposure, and mindset.

I am not here to describe what this guy does, and why. This is something you can read on his website. https://www.wimhofmethod.com

I want to talk about my friend’s great experience at trying what Wim is describing to do if you want not just be healthy but also if you want to change your life to be better. Most of my articles are about a positive mindset, that’s why I find it very interesting ‘the Win Hof method’.

Back to my friend Mario;

He told me he was so much ill still about two years ago. Mario was actively looking for anything in alternative medicine to help him get rid of all illnesses he used to have. There are many alternative methods but what is quite interesting on Wim’s method is the fact that he is combining three things in one. To get you prepared for the ice-cold bath without harming you. You need to start doing breathing exercises (I was writing about it in one of my other articles before) to get you prepared for the ice-cold bath, you need to have a positive mindset.

There would be so much to say about ‘positive mindset’ but this article would be too long, and is not intended for this purpose. Just feel free to go through my other articles where you will find everything about ‘mindset’.

E.g. an article called ‘how to control your mind’ https://novodus.com/how-to-control-your-mind-2/

So Wim’s method prepares you for life, not just for a healthy lifestyle. But life is all about enjoying what you do, makes sense…

So Mario tried. He joined a group of people doing the same thing. Collective therapy where everyone is supporting each other, it is much better than trying on your own. Because no man is an island, and the connection with others doing the same thing must be really uplifting.

Mario, told me he was trying, and working on the breathing exercises first, trying to learn how to focus, and concentrate, how to gain stronger will, and this way to gain the positive mindset to prepare him for the ice-cold bath.

When Mario tried for the first time, to immerse in ice-cold water, the temperature was around 0 degrees in water, and the temperature of the air was below 0 degrees. He described it as 1000s of little needles pinching him in his body, after some time it went away, and he felt pain from the cold water but again after some more time spent there the pain started to go away. He only spent two minutes or so in the bath but his body adjusted naturally to the extreme temperatures.

Mario had few sessions of collective meditations, and some preparation techniques like breathing exercises according to the Wim’s trainings methods. He says that all the chronic illnesses he had, like having a cold 5 times a year, lack of energy, and optimism, they all disappeared, simple as that.

At the moment he carries on developing, and progressing onto the next level. As he personally told me, he saw an old woman coming to the lake, immersing in ice-cold water, and swimming for a very long time like its nothing but very warm water.

What is happening inside the body when exposed to ice-cold water?

When your body and mind is not prepared

1- Cold water can cause a heart attack due to vasoconstriction; the heart has to work harder to pump      the same volume of blood throughout the body.

2- Hypothermia occurs when your body loses heat faster than it produces it. The most common causes of hypothermia are exposure to cold-weather conditions or cold water.

3- The lungs do not freeze. Instead, the cold causes excessive fluid to collect in the lungs. This fluid can cause the person to essentially drown. Breathing through the nose gives the freezing air a chance to warm up.

4- There are more pathological or even psychological ways what bad can happen like when you break through ice into water and start panicking.

When your body and mind is prepared

1- Coldwater activates cold sensors just under our skin, which then increase our heart rate and add a surge of adrenaline to give you that jittery (but good), alive feeling.

2- Refines Hair and Skin. … Remember, cold water only temporarily tightens skin as it constricts blood flow, but it does not shrink pores. When it comes to hair care, cold showers can make hair appear shinier, stronger, and healthier by flattening hair follicles and increasing their ability to grip the scalp/

3- Coldwater releases natural endorphins into your bloodstream and brain, shifting your mood. There are many scientists who even believe cold showers can help alleviate symptoms of depression.

Outcome

As you can read the effects, they change their characteristic mainly depending on your preparation in your mind (positive mindset), and physical preparation. Taking cold showers before you jump into ice-cold water. It is just like with anything else we do, we always need to learn the best way to accomplish a task. It is common sense, human nature, and a self-defensive mechanism set by your healthy mind to learn, get ready, and be prepared for unexpected.

After you are physically, and mentally ready for the ice-cold bath. You have probably gone through some meditations, and breathing exercises sessions, possibly in groups. Exposure to extreme cold water increases adrenaline. This hormone is responsible for redistributing blood to the muscles and altering the body’s metabolism.

There are more positives after-effects resulting in good health, better and stronger new ‘You’ then the negative side-effects

An exposure is not for everyone, but why not to try. One last thing to say. Mario has got rid of all illnesses, and chronic deceases he was suffering from. It must have been for him a very long, and hard journey. Initially he had a vision. He turned his dream to be healthy into something real by being determined to succeed no matter what it takes. He was focused, determined, persistent, patient. This is what I always say in all my articles. No matter what is your goal. You can have any goal, it is all about taking the right approach.
